Marketing Collateral
Ring binders and presentation folders
Of all the material that supports sales and marketing functions, the most often neglected, and put off until the last minute to resolve, is the ring binder or presentation folder for sales and marketing (and training) documentation.
The intellectual effort that goes into marketing and sales documentation is generally huge! The effort and time involved in developing training programs is also enormous. And at the last minute the time normally taken to devise and design the presentation folder or binder, is not all that much.
Choosing presentation ring binders / ring folders.
Firstly, the ring binder must convey the value of the information within; whilst at the same communicate the nature, and the exclusivity of your business.
The ring binder must be the right format – if the document is an A4 document, as most are in Australia, then the ring binder needs to suit an A4 document; if the document is A5 or even A3, then the ring binder or ring folder needs to fit the document correctly.
Once the format has been decided, the size of the document itself needs to sorted out, so that the most suitable ring metal size and ring metal configuration can be selected.
The number of leaves in the document will determine the most suitable size ring metal for the ring binder or ring folder.
So often the integrity of a document is compromised by ill fitting ring binders and ring folders. Seek the advice of your supplier to establish the most suitable ring metal size.
Selecting a suitable material for your ring binders and ring folders
In Australia, it appears that the most used materials are now polypropylene or pvc for plastic ring binders and plastic ring folders.
Polypropylene is generally chosen because of its environmental integrity and its lightweight and modern appeal. PVC is chosen probably because it’s been the traditional substrate for ring binders and ring folders in Australia for many years. Both materials are generally good value. The big issue with pvc seems to be the problem of recycling and recyclability. PVC itself is recyclable – but in ring binder and ring folder form it is not recyclable because of the hard cardboard insert welded into the pvc cover material to provide rigidity for ring binders and ring folders. PVC material used in ring binders and folders is a very soft and pliable and full of plasticizers.
